Living Learning Communities

A Living Learning Community or LLC is a community of students living within a residential floor or residence hall who are connected through an academic major or field of study. The LLC is directed by a faculty or staff member who organizes educational and social activities for LLC members to bolster student engagement and academic success.  

These live-in communities foster greater interaction among students allowing for them to make friends easier and become more involved in social and learning activities. Research has shown that LLCs have proven beneficial to students who participate by enhancing their overall well-being and improving academic performance through supportive mentoring by staff, resulting in higher retention, graduation rates and GPAs.  

Eligibility to participate in an LLC and requirements are specific to the type of LLC students wish to live in. Carroll currently offers LLC programs that include the Honors Program and Nursing.

2023-2024 academic year applications to be considered for an LLC are due by:

  • April 1, 2023 for first-year students

After these dates applications will be considered based on availability. 

Honors Program LLC

All incoming first-year students who accept an offer to join the Honors program will live in A. Paul Jones Honors Hall, Carroll’s Honors Living and Learning Community (LLC). As a member, you will benefit from living and working closely with other Honors students who share the same desire to cultivate and grow their talents and potential for leadership. As a community, you will engage in two of your Carroll education’s foundational courses (CCS100 and ENG170), share living experiences, study together, mentor each other, and have exclusive access to special events designed specifically for Honors and your LLC. This will transform your residential space at Carroll into an active, supportive, and exciting place to live and learn as a member of a dynamic group of like-minded students!

How to Apply
All first-year students who accept an offer to join the Honors program will be automatically housed in A. Paul Jones Honors Hall (unless they receive a residency waiver).

Nursing LLC

The Nursing Living Learning Community (NLLC) at Carroll University is a specialized residential program designed to support students pursuing a career in nursing. This community's goal is to provide an immersive environment where nursing students live together, fostering collaboration, support, and shared academic goals. Overall, we strive to create a supportive, academically enriching environment that helps students succeed in their nursing studies and prepares them for future careers in healthcare.

Requirements

  • All first-year nursing students – direct entry, are eligible to participate in the Nursing LLC.
  • Participation in the Nursing LLC is for a full academic year.
  • Students will live in a designated residence hall along with a roommate who is also part of the Nursing LLC.

How to Apply
First-year nursing students should indicate interest in the Nursing LLC as part of the housing application process.
